At Wayfinder Counselling, we welcome individuals seeking support through self-referral, and we also partner with a range of programs and services to broaden access to care. In addition to those who reach out directly, we work with referral partners including the Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP), Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) support services, Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) for First Nation and Inuit clients, the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) for newcomers and protected persons, and the Children’s Aid Society. These collaborations ensure that people experiencing emotional distress, trauma, or life transitions can connect with compassionate, trauma-informed counselling in a way that best suits their circumstances.

Individuals who have been victims of a physical assault where the police have been involved are eligible for short-term psychotherapy services. Individuals are provided with a victim service worker who completes the referral package on their behalf.

First Nations and Inuit peoples who hold a registration card are eligible for funding for mental health support, including therapy sessions that reset annually . Self-referral is accepted for trauma-informed therapy.

Children and youth who are victims of internet sexual exploitation, along with their affected family members, are eligible for short-term psychotherapy services that provide mental health support in a time-limited capacity. Referral required.

Newcomers to Canada and protected peoples are eligible for short-term therapy coverage the first year of their arrival. Medical doctor referral required.

Translation and interpretation services are available for those who require services be provided in a language other than those Wayfinder therapists are fluent in. Inquire directly with the therapist.

Children, youth and families may be eligible for a variety of psychotherapy services, depending on their specific needs. Collaboration with the primary social worker is required. Funding is approved on an individual basis by the society.
Wayfinder Counselling is strongly committed to anti-discrimination, equity, and meaningful inclusivity in all aspects of our work. We believe that every person deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued when seeking support. We actively celebrate difference and diversity, and we recognize that each individual’s lived experience is shaped by unique cultural, social, and personal factors.
We do not withhold or limit services based on gender, gender identity or expression, affectional orientation, relationship status, religion or spirituality, race, ethnicity, national origin, disability, age, socioeconomic status, or political belief. We are committed to providing an affirming environment for individuals from 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and for people of all family structures and relationship configurations.
Our practice is grounded in cultural humility and ongoing learning. We acknowledge the systemic barriers and inequities that many individuals and communities face, and we strive to create a counselling space that is accessible, trauma-informed, and responsive to diverse needs. This includes welcoming feedback, adapting our approaches when possible, and continually reflecting on our own biases and assumptions.
At Wayfinder Counselling, inclusivity is not just a statement—it is an ongoing commitment to ensuring that every client feels heard, respected, and empowered in their therapeutic journey.
We are proud to be an approved practicum site for Yorkville University’s MA in Counselling Psychology program. This designation reflects our commitment to ethical practice, clinical excellence, and the development of future counselling professionals through supervised, real-world experience in providing mental health support, including psychotherapy services and trauma-informed therapy.
